Safety Huddle – Avoiding Struck By Injuries

Safety Huddle – Chemical Safety

Supreme Maintenance is very serious about the safety and well-being of our team members.  Prevention of occupationally induced injuries and illnesses is of such consequence that it will be given precedence over operating productivity.

To the greatest degree possible, management will provide all mechanical and physical protection required for personal safety and health, but our team members bear primary responsibility for working safely.  A little common sense and caution can prevent most accidents from occurring.

Our Safety Huddle Program provides routine safety training to team members in the field that reinforce our safety program goals of zero accidents and injuries.

This month’s safety huddle is all about Avoiding ‘Struck By’ injuries and how to avoid them.

“Struck By” Injuries

‘Struck By’ injuries are a broad category that include any time a foreign object comes into contact with your body in a way that causes injury.

  • Cuts
  • Blunt force
  • Bumping into objects
  • Being struck by vehicles or machines

Vehicle Safety

If operating a SMO vehicle:

  • Inspect the vehicle regularly
  • Always wear a seat belt
  • Never operate the vehicle in an area that does not look safe or well maintained

Avoiding Hand Injuries

  • Be sure that any bladed tools are in good working condition
  • Don’t lodge bladed tools or scrapers in doors or elsewhere
  • Use proper PPE
  • Never reach into a full trash bag with bare hands

Overhead Objects

Be sure to:

  • Inspect the work area
  • Wear appropriate PPE where available
  • Inform management about safety concerns/observations
  • Make sure that tools and other items are secure if stored overhead

Please keep these important safety tips in mind while performing each task and remember; Safety First and always!
